Why self-host?

Self-hosting open-source apps gives you three things that hosted SaaS rarely does: full control of your data, predictable pricing, and the ability to customize without permission. The trade-off is operational complexity – managing the server, certificates, backups, updates, and uptime.

livemy.app removes the operational trade-off. Every guide in this section covers a popular open-source app that builders want to self-host but normally can’t because the setup involves Linux servers, Docker Compose, reverse proxies, SSL renewal, and ongoing maintenance.

On livemy.app, every self-hosted app deploys in one click. SSL is automatic and auto-renewing. Backups run daily. Updates can be triggered with a single button. You get the data sovereignty and pricing predictability of self-hosting without becoming a part-time sysadmin.

Each guide covers:

  • What the app is and who it’s for

  • Why you’d self-host instead of using the hosted version

  • The exact one-click template on livemy.app (no manual Docker Compose)

  • Custom domain setup

  • Database setup (if applicable)

  • Backups and updates

  • Cost comparison: self-hosted on livemy.app vs the hosted SaaS

If you want a self-hosted app we haven’t covered, email hello@livemy.app. We add new self-hosted app guides every other week.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about deploying apps with livemy.app.

The Maker plan at $20/month is the starting point for production self-hosted apps — always-on, up to 5 projects, 10 GB storage, 1 custom domain, and 99.5% uptime SLA included. A single self-hosted app like Ghost or Plausible uses one project; n8n with a separate Postgres database uses two – still well within Maker's 5-project limit. Add the $5/month backups add-on (recommended for any production app with a database) and you're at $25/month total. The Free plan is fine for trying a self-hosted template out, but it sleeps after 60 minutes of inactivity – which isn't suitable for analytics, an automation workflow, or a blog real visitors need to reach. Each guide includes a cost comparison against the hosted SaaS (Plausible Cloud, Ghost(Pro), n8n Cloud) so you can see where self-hosting starts paying off.

No. Every self-hosted app guide uses livemy.app's one-click templates. No Docker Compose, no SSH, no Linux command line, no reverse proxy config – you click the template, set a custom domain if you want one, and the app goes live with SSL.

Daily automated backups of your app and database, with one-click restore, are available as a $5/month add-on on the Maker and Pro plans. We strongly recommend turning them on before you point real users at the app – losing a week of Plausible analytics data or an n8n workflow history is the kind of thing self-hosters regret. The Free plan doesn't include backups, which is one of the main reasons it's not suitable for production self-hosted apps. Each guide shows how to enable backups during initial setup.

You can update a self-hosted app to a new version with a single button click in the livemy.app dashboard. Updates run as zero-downtime rolling deploys for most apps. We track upstream releases for n8n, Ghost, Plausible, Uptime Kuma, and WireGuard, and surface a "new version available" prompt in the dashboard when there's a stable release.

Yes — on Maker and Pro. The Maker plan includes 1 custom domain (additional domains $5/month each). Pro includes 3 custom domains. Each custom domain comes with automatic SSL via Let's Encrypt — adding one is a DNS record plus one click, typically under 2 minutes. The Free plan supports a livemy.app subdomain only, which is fine for trying templates but not for a self-hosted app you want users to find.
