What is Directus?

Directus wraps a SQL database with everything an app needs around it: instant REST and GraphQL APIs, a polished no-code admin app for editing data, user roles, file storage and automation flows. Point it at a fresh database or an existing one — it adapts to your schema, not the other way round.

The hosted version prices by usage, and data platforms are exactly where usage grows quietly. Self-hosted Directus is the same software with no meter — as many collections, items, users and API calls as your server handles, one flat price.

How much does it cost to self-host Directus?
Free to try — the Free plan is $0 and gives you one project on a livemy.site subdomain. Maker is $10/mo and adds a custom domain, 10 GB and a 99.5% uptime SLA; Pro is $25/mo. Daily backups are a $5/mo add-on. No usage-based fees.
Directus or NocoDB — which should I pick?
NocoDB if you want a spreadsheet: grids, kanban and forms for people who live in tables. Directus if you want a data platform: APIs, roles, file storage and an admin app for structured content. Both are in the gallery at the same flat price.
Can my apps and sites use the Directus API?
Yes — every collection gets REST and GraphQL endpoints automatically, with role-based permissions. It works well as the data layer behind AI-built front ends.
Is self-hosted Directus hard to maintain?
